A plastic one gallon of oil sunflower cooking recently melted near electric burner and out all the oil that hit the bar and an oven, drops in the burners and the puddles in the bottom of the device. Everything is clean and better than I could with Windex. The burners and drip trays will be replaced by others, but I am concerned about waste in the bread 'or housing under fire catch. The unit is essentially a large metal pan and four electric rings suspended above. Each burner / element has a round drop / catch tray. The controls are buttons on the side and I am sure that some leakage of oil in there as well. (About GE-1958) It was an accident, because my wife was looking something in the cupboard under the stove, pulled the jar of oil and placed too close to the burner.
