Tips on Scrubbing your Oven

Cleaning out the oven is a job most people hate to do. If you aren't fortuitous enough to own a self-cleaning one, the task is not fun. Question about cleaning electric stove top....?

I clean it regularly of course, but I still have this yellow grease .. stain, for a lack of a better word. It is on the front of my stove and no matter how hard I scrub it doesn't come off. I rent an apt and don't want to use anything that will scratch the surface b/c the stove isn't mine, but this grease stain just will not come off.

The most common thing I've seen on the web has been vinegar. Has anyone heard of this? Does it work? Does anyone have any other ideas? I really want to get it clean, it looks awful!!!!

Maybe if mixed with baking soda, but by itsself, no.

Have you tried ammonia? That's an excellent grease cutter, if you can take the fumes. Hot soapy water and ammonia may do it. Use a nylon scrubbie, nothing harsher. You might have to slather on the ammonia and cover with plastic or some such to let it penetrate for 30 minutes to an hour. My mother would clean her oven by pouring ammonia into a bowl, setting it into a warm oven and coming back the next a.m.. Sure glad they came up with self cleaning ovens!

Finally, when I had a glass top, I'd often end up using either Soft Scrub or Bon Ami powdered cleanser. (rinse well) In fact I just used the Bon Ami on a glass door covered with dog slobber and it didn't scratch the glass.
